BDP (Building Design Partnership) is one of the largest interdisciplinary practices in Europe.

Site: BDP Manchester Studio

Founded in 1961, it now employs more than 1000 architects, designers, engineers, urbanists, sustainability experts, lighting designrs and acoustics specialists in 17 studios across the world.

Martin Dawes has been working closely with BDP for many years so when it required a full audio-visual solution for its newly-built, award-winning Manchester studio Martin Dawes was the ideal choice for the job.

Integrator: Martin Dawes Solutions

System Installed: Full audio-visual and video-conferencing suite including beyerdynamic Revoluto conferencing system, Biamp audio processing and beyerdynamic wireless microphone systems.

The Brief: The brief was to provide BDP with a full audio-visual and video-conferencing suite. BDP required audio-enhancement for its flexible meeting space. The space, used for both internal and customer meetings can be divided in to one, two or three room configuration and required an adaptable, easy-to-use and configurable microphone system for meetings and video-conferencing.  BDP also required the facility to display boardroom content on LCD screens in its reception area and wireless microphones systems for meetings and presentations.

Martin Dawes carefully project managed the job from inception.  Each stage of the project was painstakingly planned and executed from design and cable management to installation and programming.

POLARaudio supplied beyerdynamic MPR 210
Revoluto wireless conferencing microphones for the installation.  The MPR 210 is a modern desktop microphone which is ideal for discussions, tele/video conferencing and announcements.  The Revoluto’s unique microphone line array technology has seventeen integral microphone capsules. This creates a much more extended pick-up pattern than traditional gooseneck microphones.  The “corridor characteristic” of the pick-up gives the user wider voice range and allows them to speak freely and maintain eye contact with their audience without any loss in audio quality.

In addition to the Revoluto system, POLARaudio also supplied a
Biamp Audiaflex Mainframe for control, a Biamp Audio Logic Box to recall audio presets when the room configuration is changed, six beyerdynamic Opus 51 Boundary microphones for video conferencing, and a beyerdynamic Opus 350 Lapel Radio Microphone System for presentations and meetings.  Other equipment installed included an AMX touch-screen control system, Dynamax digital signage, Phillips LCD screens, Unicol projectors, Draper electric projection screens, KEF ceiling speakers  and Samsung and Sony Audio-Visual equipment.

Paul Berry – Project Manager for Martin Dawes commented: -
The VC audio element was easy... the key question when choosing the microphones was " would they be good enough to provide sound reinforcement within the room" (a challenge for all system integrators).  Following on site demonstrations of the Revoluto MPR 210 microphones, the answer was unanimous from ourselves and the client. In addition, the pick-up and audio response was vastly improved when compared to a traditional gooseneck lectern microphone too.

The Biamp Audiaflex is one of the first components to be put on the blank page when commencing a system design, as it is a proven, trusted, powerful and extremely flexible system.
