POLAR Audio supply Saville Audio Visual with the first Revoluto Digital Conferencing System

Saville Audio Visual has recently completed the UK’s first installation of the ground-breaking beyerdynamic Revoluto, the world’s first line array microphone system for the digital conference market.

The installation, at the main Wrexham campus of Glyndwˆr University, is part of a complete integrated audio visual solution.  The university’s Executive Senate room was equipped with forty bespoke IT desks designed and installed by the Saville team.  Each desk was furnished with a Revoluto delegate station and networking for the delegates’ laptops.

In total, Polar Audio supplied Saville with forty Revoluto delegate stations and three chairman stations for the multifunctional conference room.  All forty of the Beyerdynamic microphone stations installed are part of the MCS-D 200 series.  The version installed at Glyndwˆr takes advantage of the simplicity of a single push to talk button functionality, however the MCS-D 200 portfolio includes units with additional function buttons for complex voting scenarios and integral loudspeakers, which allow the user to listen to the audio locally through the speakers in addition to the headphone output, in certain installations this negates the need for an additional PA system.

Matt Nettlefold, Polar Audio’s Conference Manager commented:
“The Revoluto’s unique microphone line array technology has seventeen integral microphone capsules. This creates a much more extended pick-up pattern than traditional gooseneck microphones.  The “corridor characteristic” of the pick-up gives the user wider voice range and allows them to speak freely and maintain eye contact with their audience without any loss in audio quality”.  He added “The versatility of the pick-up pattern allowed the Saville team, unusually, to mount the Revoluto units above the delegate work stations.  This enabled laptops to be used in a clutter-free workspace without blocking the pick-up pattern of the microphone, which would have resulted in a loss of audio quality and intelligibility”.

In addition to the Revoluto system, Polar Audio also supplied a Biamp Nexia CS, beyerdynamic Steno-S Software and beyerdynamic SIS (Simultaneous Interpretation System).   The SIS has been designed for multilingual events and consists of a control unit and an interpreter station.  The interpreter station is equipped with the EarPatron® hearing protection.  EarPatron® is able to measure, evaluate and control the actual audio level the interpreter is exposed to during the whole time of listening.

The Saville-installed system includes a bespoke lectern and projection screen, a Sanyo projector, custom built equipment rack, wireless AMX control system and an Elmo Visualiser. An infra-red system was installed for visitors with hearing difficulties, plus SMART Synchroneyes software for displaying all the laptops through the AV system.

The system was specified by Saville technical manager Colin Broadfoot, who has been providing the university (formerly North East Wales Institute) with audio visual advice and support for over twenty years. He added: “Revoluto is the first product of its kind and there is nothing like it in the market place. The concept proved to be a key factor in creating a unique meeting and conferencing facility.”
