Southampton takes on digital conferencing system from beyerdynamic

Leading manufacturer, beyerdynamic (GB) has recently supplied integrated systems provider; Crawley based Advanced Digital Solutions, with their sophisticated MCW-D wireless digital conferencing system. Commissioned by Southampton City Council, the system has significantly augmented the potential of its conference chambers.

Southampton is a lively, cosmopolitan city with a very active local government. The Civic Centre, a splendid 1930’s, Art Deco building, is the home of the Southampton City Council. It dominates the hill and overlooks the harbour, which is known for its active trading port, from where the legendary Titanic and many other luxury liners set sail during the golden-age of transatlantic travel in the early 20th century.

The Civic Centre contains all the local government administration departments as well as a spectacular purpose built conference chamber that has remained largely unchanged since its inception, offering limited technical and voice reinforcement facilities.

Advanced Digital Solutions were contacted earlier in the year to propose a conference system that would be effective, aesthetic and be able to fall with the budget set for the upgrade. Hardest of all was the caveat that the conference benches should not have cables or equipment fixed to them and that installation was to be non-invasive to preserve the integrity of the installed furniture.

Paul Langridge of Advanced Digital Solutions enthused: “This project was a natural choice for beyerdynamic’s MCW-D wireless conference system. We have used the system in a few other council chambers and have been impressed by the products and the support given by the beyerdynamic’s technical’s team. The systems have proved to be reliable and they interface with Crestron control system without a problem”

Two complete systems were purchased from beyerdynamic, adding up to a total of 58 MCW-D 1021 Delegates, two MCW-D 1023 Chairpersons and two Central Stations.

Each station is wireless and completely stand-alone. This keeps physical footprint to a minimum but still provides a fully featured conference station. Each station benefits from a speaker that is incorporated within the base of the MCW stations’. This creates a fully distributed sound reinforcement system throughout the chamber, without the need for an additional PA system .The stations are stored in a flight case that also functions as the charging station, keeping them secure and ”out of sight” when the chamber is not is use.

beyerdynamic’s conference product manager Matt Nettlefold added: ?The Council are very happy with the system as are Advanced Digital Solutions. This is a classic application for the MCW-D system and proved to be exactly the right product for the job?

The MCW-D is part of a wide range of conference and installed sound products that are available from beyerdynamic (GB).
