Renkus Heinz new line array system tours the UK
Beyerdynamic recently sponsored the UK tour launch for the Renkus-Heinz PN102 line array loudspeaker system, which has been an enormous success.
A range of venues and live events, from reggae concerts to monster truck shows, were selected to showcase the versatility of this new system.

The first challenge was for R G Jones to supply the PA sound system at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in June, delivering live TV coverage with 12x PN102 powered ground-stacked units to Aorangi (‘Henman’) Hill to thousands of enthusiastic fans.

Next came the
gospel concert Perfect Beat in Brighton, with 20 x PN102 powered line array and 8 DR18-2 Powered subs. Crystal Sales engineer Percy Douglas had this to say; “Excellent full range sound and such a compact size. Wherever you stood in the hall - top, back or at the side - the sound was really even. Truly amazing. The organizers commended us on how good it sounded compared to their previous shows.”

Then on to the Reggae Live music gig at Aston Villa Leisure Centre in August. The PN102 array speakers were flown, together with stage standing units and 8x DR18-2 powered subs, to deliver that distinctive hefty bass end. The event was handled by Stage Audio Services, as were the two Clear Channel monster truck tour ‘Monster Jam’ events held at MEN-Manchester and the NIA centre Birmingham.

“These events went really well,” said sound engineer Stan Saunders. “We flew the new Renkus arrays up high to handle a three-sided arena aspect. Because the PN102's are self-powered, testing was quick. In fact, they were all up and ready to go in under 45 minutes, and that’s quick. The show was effectively ‘in the round’, so having a 155 degree dispensation angle on the cabs really helped coverage. It’s a very compact system and the sound was stunningly loud, especially when you consider that it was up against the Monster Trucks 650 bhp engines. There were six of them, and they were loud.”

And finally, something a little more subtle than the trucks.
William Shakespeare’s play ‘The Merchant of Venice’ with the Polesden Lacey Theatre Company. Graham McGarrick from R G Jones commented, “This was a two week open air event with very varied performances. The first week we had a Jazz festival and then an Elvis tribute concert and the second week was the Shakespeare play, which required a very sensitive range of dynamics. The system was so impressive. At first I didn’t think we would get a wide enough coverage angle, but the 155 degree spec was true to its word - a very even sound and flying it was easy”. System configuration was 16 x PN102 powered line array, and 4 X DR18-2 powered subs with an XTA 428 control processor.

The Renkus-Heinz PN102 system delivers live sound closer to the ultimate reference point for demanding specifications that cannot be met with conventional horizontal loudspeaker arrays alone.
The unique design delivers superior fidelity and coverage angle. Although housed in a tough, durable cabinet the PN 102 speakers are light enough to be assembled by just one person.
The two line systems available are PNX102/LA non-active and the PN102/LA PowerNet (self-powered).
