New beyerdynamic headset DT297 designed for broadcast.

Heilbronn, Germany based, beyerdynamic, has introduced a new headset – the DT 297, to its expansive range of professional products.

Launched at the Frankfurt Musik Messe, this lightweight headset has been developed for professional broadcasting use. beyerdynamic’s mission for optimal performance is reflected in the proficient and elegant design of the DT 297 and within weeks of its launch was specified for use by one of the world’s largest broadcast events; the 2002 football World Cup in Korea and Japan.
Specified by FIFA in Switzerland, over 1000 units were supplied for use in every commentary box covering one of the largest outside broadcast events in the world. FIFA control all aspects all of the programme capture and provide video and audio feeds from all of the international football events. It was the requirement for a consistent, repeatable and high quality programme output that was a key factor in their decision to use the DT 297.
The DT297 is fitted with a large condenser microphone optimised for commentary that can be positioned simply by forming the flexible gooseneck to the correct position. The optimum distance from the mouth is between 5 to 10 cm and frequency response for this distance corresponds to recommendations from the IRT (Institute for Radiotechnology in Munich). It has a natural, warm sound with excellent noise cancellation properties and the microphone element is mounted within a unique elastic suspension module to provide a very high degree of mechanical isolation.
The headphones are closed, circumaural and use a neodymium magnet system for very high reproduction precision and can be used for communications as well as for reference monitoring. Fitted with fitted soft cushioned earshells and a fully adjustable padded headband they offer exceptional comfort; important for broadcast presenters working long hours.
Following in the theme of major world sporting events, broadcast rental specialists Glensound have supplied DT297 headset to many of the independent broadcast facilities for use at the Wimbledon tennis championships.
