Audio Light Systems get going with EASE
Audio Light Systems, a new company formed by Trevor Cross and Eddy O’Hare, having over 30 years experience between them, most of which was gained with Northern Light, have now decided the time is right to start afresh. The new company is based in Edinburgh and are one of the first to purchase Renkus-Heinz’s EASE (Enhanced Acoustic Simulator for Engineers). The software runs under Windows, and now includes AURA (Analysis Utility for Room Acoustics) along with a new wizard for scattering effects, and is distributed in the UK by beyerdynamic.
“The EASE software will allow us to accurately demonstrate to clients’. said Cross. ‘How their rooms react to different types of speakers and then also in the same way allow us to show how well we can cover the room with infra red transmitters. It may seem extreme to do this for the customer but this software is very intuitive and will in most cases allow us to save money for them, because EASE shows the room and speaker selection in the most usable partnership”.
O’Hare added, “The thing that finally swayed us to buy EASE was the fact that it contains reference data for a lot, if not all, of the speaker manufacturers out there, which means we can be unbiased in our recommendation to the client. New information is downloadable from the net, so from an investment point of view, the product never goes out of date! We had a demonstration at PLASA and realised that this was the way forward. Programs like EASE make the job faster and more accurate, meaning less time on site making final adjustments.”
Renkus-Heinz EASE software, originated from Dr. Wolfgang Ahnert of ADA (Acoustical Design Ahnert), has now developed into the de facto standard software for sound system modelling. One of the advantages of EASE over other systems is its comprehensive inbuilt library containing profiles of all major manufactured speaker systems.

The Phase data and Phase balloons create views of what speakers can do not only in magnitude and frequency but also in phase, allowing the simulation of new complex line arrays. The VISION rendering engine and its associated Texture and Light Source Editors, enable users to enhance final designs with life-like accuracy through added textures, lighting, colours, shadows and shading, making the models more realistic for the customer and therefore a better sales tool. The new version of EASE is now saving the calculations instead of just pictures.
EASE version 4 produces not only more realistic simulations, but makes it possible for users to simulate some of the newer types of speakers, such as DSP process or control speakers, which require phase data for calculations. The program is ideal for architects, engineers, consultants and contractors who want to uncover the sonic characteristics of rooms even before they are built.
