Beyerdynamic distribute Altec Lansing Professional
Beyerdynamic (GB) have successfully negotiated sole distributorship of Altec Lansing Professional products for the UK. Altec Lansing was founded by James B Lansing (JBL) way back in 1937 when he hooked up with a group of Western Electric® engineers to develop the first commercial professional sound system for landmark movie "The Jazz Singer" starring Al Jolson. By the 1950's the A7 and 'Voice of the Theatre' speaker systems had set the standard for others to emulate.
Altec Lansing systems are very much in evidence today in some of the world's most prestigious facilities, from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to the Sydney Opera House. It is a little known fact is that all DELL computer products include Altec Lansing speaker technology.
International co-ordinator for Altec Lansing, Graham Allen, told us "Choosing beyerdynamic is a very significant step for Altec, not only regarding expanding sales for our existing product range but also our movement into new market areas. The technological advances made by Altec Lansing Consumer Division through working with companies like Dell have brought about the SOLUTION Series, beginning with the SLS 6221 for Plasma and Flat Panel Devices (FPD). According to figures presented at the Integrated Systems Europe Business Conference in February, the European market for AV systems is worth more than 1.5bn Euro and is predicted to grow by more than 16 per cent this year. Indications are that the FPD market is the fastest moving sector, and the potential market share for this new product should be in the region of 35%."
The SLS 6221 - SOLUTION Series 2.1 speaker system has a 6.5" Sub-bass unit and two satellites featuring six 1" tri-amplified micro-drivers. This is, apparently, the world’s smallest active line array. The satellites are magnetically shielded from the screens having the ability to take direct drive line-in and come complete with an Infra-Red remote.

The area that Altec are moving into is perfect for our portfolio" says beyerdynamic Managing Director, John Midgley. "Their high performance ceiling speakers help expand our strong position in the fixed installation market, complementing some of our existing brands, which include BITTNER power amps, AUDIA DSP and the CUE touchscreen system. The new products for Plasma and Flat Screens are very exciting and will position us well for that growth area".
