Spykatcha

Spykatcha has been involved in the music business for 15 years. His inspirations are drawn from as far back as the pirate radio music scene in the early nineties. After enjoying several years with an active role in promoting club events on the London scene, Spy’s journey led him to Liverpool 10 years ago. By pure chance, he ended up staying in the city which he now feels is a real home to him.

Spy already possessed a number of contacts in Liverpool, including Juice FM’s top DJ’s Olabean and Paul Wright, as well as many others. Spy and Ola travelled the road to semi-success together, working with local acts (Ikane and Prestige) and promoting club events. These events included guesting on Tim Westwood’s BBC Radio 1 show, as well as promoting R&B man Trevor Nelson among other top names at various club nights.

Spykatcha, Ola and Paul Wright were briefly signed to Virgin Records as part of an up and coming band called ‘Chiver’. Spy’s band caught the attention of Radio City 96.7 (perhaps the largest commercial station in the UK) who offered Spykatcha the chance to host ‘The Hotspot’, one of the biggest R&B shows in the North of England.

The Hotspot show is aired weekly Friday night/Saturday mornings on Radio City 96.7. The show has approx 1.5 million listeners. Recent guest have been, The Pussycat Dolls, Ms. Dynamite, Amerie, Akon, and Kano.

Spy is currently developing a TV pilot show of ‘Hotspot’, and is also working on an innovative Hotspot ‘Mixtape’ DVD.

Apart from presenting this Radio show, Spy has remained committed to his community activities. He has presented many showcases for local communities, including Black History Month events, Movies and Festivals, and he played a major role in the successful theatre production of ‘By the Rivers’, held at the Liverpool Playhouse in 2004.

Spy has been listed in the Top 100, two years running, as one of the most influential figures in Merseyside. He is also the focus for major mobile phone company Siemen’s, after he was named a style icon for the city.

He has worked with many interesting and inspiring people, including his new ‘friends’ in the industry who have all been guests on his show. Top names that include: LL Cool J, Mary J Blige, Shaggy, members of 50 Cent’s G-Unit, Ms Dynamite, Jamelia, Lemar … and the list goes on.

Spykatcha now travels extensively around the world, he just recently returned from a number of dates in Moscow.
