RHAON Opens Windows With Beam Steering and SysTune Real-Time Measurement
Foothill Ranch, CA [October 2008] — RHAON, the Renkus-Heinz Audio Operations Network, debuted last year as a powerful platform for extending digital audio networks all the way to their endpoints — the powered loudspeakers that deliver sound to listeners.
Now, a new RHAON plug-in for EASERA SysTune allows the dual-FFT real-time acoustic measurement software from AFMG to control the onboard DSP in RHAON-Empowered loudspeakers.

Iconyx BeamWare integration adds a new window to RHAON’s Connect, Control and Supervise screens. BeamWare’s GUI provides a simple front end, hiding the complex math used to calculate FIR filters for each element in the Iconyx and IC Live array modules. The filters are uploaded to Iconyx modules via RHAON’s Cat 5 / Ethernet connection.
With the new RHAON plugin, EASERA SysTune presents a single-screen GUI that displays single-source or spatially averaged measurements alongside RHAON’s Control screen. The system technician can adjust the onboard DSP in RHAON-Empowered loudspeakers and see the results in real time. Sound systems can now be accurately tuned in the middle of a show, EASERA SysTune acquires impulse response data using ordinary program material as the stimulus, with an audience present in the venue. EQ can also be worked on “offline” using the “virtual filter” function, simulating the effect of EQ and crossover adjustments on actual measurements. Filter settings can be modeled in SysTune and stored for transfer to RHAON.
The RHAON option provides CobraNet digital audio distribution, comprehensive DSP control and remote supervision functions for any self-powered loudspeaker in the Renkus-Heinz product line. Onboard user-controlled DSP turns RHAON-Empowered loudspeakers from “black boxes” into “smart boxes” that respond to user control of EQ, dynamics, gain — and now digital beam steering.
