On February 5th PLUMB visited 100.7 Heart FM
Plumb is American singer/songwriter Tiffany Arbuckle Lee, born in Indianapolis, her music has been featured on a number of TV shows including "Dawson's Creek" and "ER". However, having spent years writing hits for other artists, such as Mandy Moore and the most recent American Idol winner, Plumb has decided it's time to write for herself. Plumb's debut single "Real" will be released in the UK later in the year.

During a live session at 100.7 Heart fm in Birmingham, Plumb performed two acoustic tracks with her main vocal on an M88TG and the guitar picked up on an M201. Both tracks's were from her new album "Beautiful Lumps Of Coal".

Artists regularly record acoustic sets at the 100.7 Heart FM studios in Birmingham. With a background in live sound, engineering and broadcasting, 100.7 Heart fm's, NY Radio Award winner, Head Of Production, Ian Fish, oversees all the sessions from the setting up of the microphones to the post production for play out on air.

Ian's mic's of choice are the Beyerdynamic range, which he has been using in both live sound and broadcast for over 15 years.
On the 2nd December Sophie Ellis Bextor visited 100.7 Heart FM to perform a 3 song acoustic set, including "Murder On The Dance Floor" and her new song "I Won't change You". (I've attached biog' and press release on the new single if you want to use it)

At Heart FM we regularly have artists in to record sessions as part of their promotional activities ... mostly they are recorded in private in our production studio using MC740 mics for vocals and a selection of other Beyer mics (M88TG, M201, Opus 62, Opus 64) depending on the requirements.

Occasionally though we take over one of our large meeting rooms, which we are lucky has pretty good acoustic, and showcase the artist with all our staff in to enjoy the session. I found this really lifts the performance from the artist, and helps create an "atmosphere" on the DAT tape.

This series of sessions in front of a small audience have proved really successful, and the artists enjoy the performance time. With the help of Beyerdynamic, we've been able to raise the game on the quality of recording with a variety of mics to choose from.. as you can see from the pictures, we used the 2 opus 62 mics on the toms, with a M201 overhead and Sophie used an M88TG for the vocals. The Tour Manager had originally spec'd the traditional SM58 .. but I talked him into trying the M88TG and he left us knowing what a great mic it is .. we just added a little bit of mid range, and rolled off a little of the bottom !

100.7 Heart FM features a live session most Saturday afternoons ... and we're generally recording 3 or 4 a month with all kinds of artists ... including Bare Naked Ladies, Sugarbabes, Katie Melua, Marc Owen, Turin Brakes, Ronan Keating , Dana Glover, Delta Goodrem, Des'ree, Beverly Knight ...

Pop’s queen of cool, Sophie Ellis-Bextor releases her new single ‘I Won’t Change You’ on December 29th.

The feel-good party track is set to be one of the most requested songs over the forthcoming party season. The single written by Sophie with Gregg Alexander and Matt Rowe is about accepting people for who they are in a relationship. Sophie sings “I used to think I had to change the way I am/ To feel better, to get a man.”

The promo video for the single is another classic Sophie video. Sophie plays a number of different characters at a ‘speed dating’ night.

‘I Won’t Change You’ is set to give Sophie her 6th consecutive top ten single and is taken from her recently released album ‘Shoot From The Hip’. Sophie will be hanging up her Manola heels over the Christmas holidays and returning in January to start preparations for a tour later in the year.
